Use these templates to ask for formal references from your incoming employees

Sample 1

Subject line: [Job title] at [Company name]

Dear [Candidate name],

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us about the [Job title] position and [completing your assignment]. We enjoyed getting to know you and we’d like to move to the [next/final] stage of the process. Could you provide me with [two] references of yours? It would be nice if you could send me the names, reporting relationship and phones or emails of [two] of your former [managers/colleagues].

Subject line: [Job Title] at [Company name]

Hi [Candidate name],

Thank you for taking the time to interview with us for the position of [Job Title]. Our team was impressed with your assignments and would like to advance you to the final round of the interview process.

Can you please quickly send in two/three of your professional references, mentioning their names, your reporting relationships, and the means to contact them? It would be really helpful if you can send it in before [preferred date].
